Commissioner's Corner- Mike Miller

                                           I wish everyone a joyous holiday season and happy new year on behalf of the City Commissioners, City Manager, and staff. In
                                     retrospect, 2020 has been a year of unprecedented challenges toward maintaining the quality of services the City provides to residents
                                     of Cocoa Beach.
                                     While the City advanced our goals and objectives in 2020, we face significant challenges in 2021. 
                                    
PANDEMIC EMERGENCY RESPONSE:
· Conducted virtual City Commission meetings during the coronavirus pandemic
· Broadcast virtual meetings to keep citizens informed
· Maintained essential city services without interruption
· Kept the beach open for use by Cocoa Beach residents
· Adopted policies resulting in among the lowest Covid-19 cases in Florida
 
ACCOMPLISHMENTS in 2020:
· Completed construction of over $6 million in wastewater improvements
· Completed sanitary sewer improvements along North Banana River Drive
· Completed another phase of canal muck dredging
· 2021 City Budget maintains current level of service with the same property millage rate
· Began review of site plans for new Westin Hotel and conference center
· Began permit review of construction plans for The Surf on Cocoa Beach Condominiums
· Began construction of a new Police Headquarters building
 
CHALLENGES for 2021:
· Improve water quality in the Indian River Lagoon
· Improve resiliency to hurricane winds and flooding
· Redevelop aging and deteriorated buildings
· Redevelop Lori Wilson Park
· Maintain safety from Covid-19
