Commissioner's Corner: Mike Millerwish everyone a joyous holiday season and happy new year on behalf of the City Commissioners, City Manager, and staff. 2021 has been a year of resiliency to maintain the quality of services the City provides to residents of Cocoa Beach. We have done our best to return the City back to normal operations despite the lingering effects of COVID-19. EVENTS THAT RETURNED IN 2021: • Cocoa Beach Air Show • Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot • Cocoa Beach Art Show • Cocoa Beach Holiday Parade • Cocoa Beach Boat Parade • Cocoa Beach Surfing Santa’s ACCOMPLISHMENTS IN 2021: · Obtained multiple grants for wastewater improvements · Approved development plans for the Westin Hotel and Conference Center · Issued building permit for The Surf on Cocoa Beach condominiums · Added emergency generators to sewer lift stations · Initiated Community Paramedic Program · Completed drainage and paving improvements along Cedar Avenue and Catalina Road · Completed construction of the new Police Headquarters building CHALLENGES FOR 2022: • Improve water quality in the Indian River Lagoon • Improve resiliency to hurricane winds and flooding Thank you for allowing me to serve as your City Commissioner.
