Tilling of Sand Prior to Turtle Season
On Wednesday and Thursday, February 6-7, 2019 a company contracted by Brevard County will begin tilling sand on the beach at Shepard Park. Each year prior to sea turtle nesting season, state and federal permits require that the County take sand compaction measurements within the sand placement areas part of the Brevard County Shore Protection Project. The tilling, which is planned for February 6 and 7, will fluff up the sand in the high traffic areas of Shepard Park, Minutemen Causeway, and 7th-9th Street South to make it softer and easier for sea turtles to dig in when they nest and hatch.
