Whether you've always wanted to try making clay pottery or you need a refresher course, this class is for you! Instructor Glaucia Romano will guide you as you learn the basics of hand-building with clay by using slabs, coils, or pinch-pot techniques, discover how to use a variety of tools and molds, and how to add texture. Work at your own pace and at your own level! You are encouraged to bring pictures or sketches to work from, but there will be resources and suggestions to inspire you. Fee for the class is $75 which includes clay and equipment. After class the artwork will be fired and returned to the student. If you'd like to glaze your work, you may schedule a time with the instructor to apply the glaze for an additional $20 which includes materials and a second firing. Each spring the Central Brevard Art Association awards a scholarship to a Central Brevard County high school senior.  Its 19th annual Scholarship recipient is Rowan Booth from Cocoa Beach Jr/Sr High School.  For the third year the Studios of Cocoa Beach and Ridley’s Custom Framing of Palm Bay have teamed up to present an exhibit of Rowans work.  His work will be on exhibit June 9 to 29, 2023 at the Studios’ gallery with an opening reception from 6 to 9 pm on June 10..   He will share the spotlight with “Like the Yellow Sun” an exhibit of art in many media by Studios artists with the works exploring the color yelllow   Both exhibits will be on display until June 29. The opening reception on the evening of June 10th is an opportunity to meet Rowan and many of the Studios artists while enjoying enjoying refreshments and viewing amazing local art. The reception is free. A donation to the Studios gives you a chance to win, as we raffle off two art works by Studios artists.

Jan Bryant continues her popular painting classes at the Studios of Cocoa Beach. On Tuesday June 13 she will teach Beginning Acrylic Painting from 1 t 3 pm. This class is for Beginners, or those wishing to refresh! Explore different types of canvas; various techniques including washes, brush and paint suggestions, and additives. We will have fun trying these acrylic experiences, while not worrying we will "ruin" a painting. You will be ready, after class, to paint with acrylics and understand what supplies you need. She works in watercolors, acrylics, ink and pastels. She has taught at the college level in Kentucky and Ohio and locally at Central Brevard Art Association. We will be working with soap felting as well as needle-felting. Students may work on any project they choose in both two-dimensional and three-dimensional felting. You will be able to take home an example of each. Feel free to bring your ideas and inspirational pictures! Felting is an ancient technique to create fabric that has been around since at least 6500 BCE! Felt is a non-woven textile made of wool or animal fur. There are different ways to create felt: one is with soap and water, and another is with a felting needle. Regardless of the process, the action of felting binds fibers together creating a permanent bond. What can you make by felting? The possibilities are endless! Maybe a two-dimensional artwork ready to be framed, or a three-dimensional plushy, keychain, or even beads! Fee for the class is $75 which includes all materials. The class will explore a different techniques for creating prints. We will start with foam, then progress to linoleum and gelli plates. Once you learn the basics, you can use print making techniques to create abstract artwork, journal pages, greeting cards, printed fabric, and much more.The sky is the limit!
