City Elections: As of noon, 08-20-10; Candidate Qualifying has ended. Congratutions to Vice-Mayor Williams for having no opposition and for being re-elected to Seat 4. As for Commissioner Seat 5, three candidates have qualified: Don John, Mary Nail, and Dave Netterstrom.
Also on the City ballot, a question if the City should only hold even-year elections, with the exception of holding odd-year elections when citizen petitions are submitted and/or Commission vacancies occur. If the measure is adopted, it would change the Commissioners' terms of office from three years to four years. The measure is being put to voters because of lower voter turnout on odd-year elections, and to reduce election costs (The Commission discussed this question at their July 15 and August 5, 2010, City Commission meetings)
