Participate in the City of Cocoa Beach Holiday Decorating Contest.  Winners of the Single-Family, Multi-Family/Condo and Business Categories will be announced at the Commission Meeting of December 18.  Judged by the Surfside Garden Club.  Winners were Selected on December 18.

The City’s Waterways and Wildlife Advisory Board members and City staff will hold the first of several cleanup projects to begin removal of the undesirable plants and Brazilian Pepper trees from the City’s newly-acquired Cocoa Beach Maritime Hammock Preserve (located at the 1200 block of S.R. A1A.  north of Cocoa Isles Boulevard, between Denny’s Restaurant and the Space Coast Credit Union).  Please bring heavy-duty garden gloves and wear appropriate clothing.  Questions, please contact: Bob Day at 783-8899 or - Ken “Skip” Williams at 799-1641.

6:00 to 8:00 P.M.  City Commission Candidates Forum sponsored by the League of Women Voters to be held at City Hall.  The Forum will be televised on the Government Channel. Questions for the Candidates may be asked at the Forum or may be e-mailed ahead of time to the City Clerk.

September 23, 2003 Barb Hance, City Clerk's Office, named the City of Cocoa Beach Employee of the Quarter.  Barb has been with the City for 12 years.    She was praised for her hard work, kindness, courteousness and professionalism.
Also nominated were:  Carl Benedetto - Police, Ann Frank - Building, Mercedes Gibney - Finance, Charles Holland - Finance, John Kane - Police, Melinda Keese - Personnel, Roger Leeming - Golf, Sam Mazzarell - Golf and Howard Smith - Public Works

September 19, 2003 Seat 2 Commission Candidate Danny Nail and Seat 3 Commission Candidate Mary Nail withdraw from the races.  Mr. Kevin Pruett declared elected - term effective November 4, 2003.  In the running for Seat 2 are Incumbent Ken Griffin and Commission Candidate John Tricard.

At President Bush's request flags are flown at half mast at City Hall commemorating the events of September 11, 2001.   This Day has been proclaimed as Patriots Day.

Please Note: The City will be holding a General Election on November 4, 2003.  Commission Terms Expiring in 2003: Seat 2 (Currently filled by Commissioner Griffin) and Seat 3 (Currently filled by Vice-Mayor Fricker.)  Qualifying Period: The Qualifying Period is August 29 - September 5, 2003, Noon to Noon.  City Hall is closed on September 1, 2003.  Commission Candidate Handbooks and Forms now available on line.  For more info call the City Clerk at 868-3235.

Commissioner John Michael Thames passed away - Flags flown at half mast at City Hall.  Mr. Thames served as Cocoa Beach Commissioner from 1989-1992. Commissioner Thames meant a lot to each of us.  Our deepest sympathy are with his family.
