The Fire Department is currently out of smoke detectors. They have handed out all 250 smoke detectors to our residents.This program was funded via a grant from the Florida State Fire Chiefs Assoc. and is no longer available.

FDOT Work Program Public Hearing - December 14, 2006

Each year the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) District Five holds public hearings throughout the district to highlight transportation projects being considered for funding in the Five Year Work Program and to gather public comments on the Tentative Work Program. The public hearing in Brevard will be held in conjuntion with the December MPO Board Meeting on December 14, 2006. The MPO meeting and public hearing will be broadcast live and re-broadcast on Space Coast Government Television (SCGTV - www.scgtv.org).

Waste Management is closed on Thursday, Thanksgiving Day. There will be no solid waste service of any kind for that day only. All other days of the week are on the normal schedule.

Road Work on SR. A1A - Work began on October 16th and it is a 150-day project.  FDOT is starting on the sidewalks first, and will remove palm trees when necessary.  The road work will run from SR 520 north to the RaceTrack gas station (just south of the Port).  It is expected to start in early January.  DOT expects work to be done between the hours of 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. and they do not expect to have lane closures (although when they work close to SR 520 they might have to close lanes for a while).

Is your Home Homestead? The State of Florida is offering grants to hurricane strengthen your structure. My Safe Florida Home. To help Floridians identify how they can strengthen their homes against hurricanes and to reduce hurricane damage exposure in our state, the Florida Comprehensive Hurricane Damage Mitigation Program is offering free home inspections by qualified hurricane mitigation inspectors to eligible homeowners.  

This is not an entitlement program. You must apply and obtain approval in order to receive the free inspection. Requesting or obtaining an inspection does not guarantee or automatically qualify you for a grant. Floridians whose homes have undergone a wind certification and hurricane mitigation inspection approved by the Department of Financial Services will then be eligible to apply for matching grants up to $5,000.

COCOA BEACH PRESS RELEASE ~

Ocean Beach Boulevard Improvement - Public Workshop The City of Cocoa Beach has just begun the engineering and design for roadway improvements along Ocean Beach Boulevard.  A Public Workshop will be held on Monday, September 11, 2006 at 6:30pm in the Cocoa Beach City Hall Commission Room where several preliminary designs will be on display.  Cocoa Beach residents are encouraged to get involved, review the conceptual designs and submit ideas.  Construction will not start for at least a year and will include stormwater, sidewalk, landscape, bicycle and crosswalk improvements.  For more information about this Public Workshop, please contact Joanie Regan at 868-3292.

- PADI certified SCUBA offered starting on August 1, 2006. Cost is $209.00. The classes will be on Tues and Thurs evenings from 6:30pm - 9:30pm. Explore the great underwater world!

- Cardboard Boat Regatta:  August 12th. Lori Wilson Park is not yet dog friendly!
The park, the pavilion, the beach, etc. is off-limits to dogs.  The only area where dogs will be allowed is in the dog park, when the dog park is completed at Lori Wilson Park.  For further info call the Brevard County Parks and Recreation Department - (321) 633-2046.

Boil Water Notice:

Please be advised that due to a water main break on Meridian Drive in Cocoa Beach, the City of Cocoa Utilities Department is notifying you that you need to boil your drinking water. Bring water to a rolling boil for a minimum of one (1) minute. If the water is discolored or has an odor, discard it and do not use it. As an alternative, bottled water may be used.

This affects the following customers in Cocoa Beach:

All of Winslow Circle
All of Meridian Drive
All of Azure Lane N
All of Azure Lane S.
Taft Avenue (from Ridgewood Avenue to S. Azure Lane)

This is in effect until further notice. This is necessary to make sure the water is safe to drink. Samples will be picked up and tested on two (2) consecutive days. You will be notified in writing when we are sure that the water is safe to drink. If you have any questions about water quality sampling, please call our Claude Dyal Water Treatment Plant at 635-7770. For any other questions, call our Distribution office at 639-7653.
