  NOTICE STUDENT SUMMER VOLUNTEER PROGRAM AT THE COCOA BEACH PUBLIC LIBRARY YOUTH DEPARTMENT - calling all students entering Grade 6 and up – the Cocoa Beach Public Library needs you this summer! Help us make a teepee and work on the continuing renovation of our teen area. Volunteer during our Story Hours and Craft Activities. Join the Teen Advisory Board. Make new friends, learn more about your library and meet community service requirements for your school. Call now to sign up - orientation will be on Wednesday, June 2 from 10:00 AM to noon in the Community Room. Attendance at this volunteer orientation is mandatory. Teen Youth Players Summer Camp - May 24 - June 17, Surfside Playhouse, Cocoa Beach 783-3013 Watercolor artist Cecilia Muldoon-Walker will teach a 5 week watercolor class on Tuesdays, June 1,8,15,22 & 29 from 9:00 AM – noon. Cost for the 5 week session is $50.00. Please sign up at the circulation desk, and pick up a materials list. A second 4 week session will be held on Tuesdays, July 6, 13, 20 & 27 from 9:00 AM – noon. Cost is $40.00

Submit your art to the Space Coast Art Festival to commemorate the 41st Festival.  Deadline June 21.  Students in grades one through 12 can enter the T-Shirt design contest.  Prize -  $150 to the winner.

Invasive Exotic Species in the Florida Environment with Chris Combs, Wednesday, June 2 at 1:00 PM. A marine Agent with the University of Florida Extension Services, Combs will give a powerpoint presentation outlining how invasive exotic species, like the Brazilian Pepper, are impacting and crowding out native species, like the mangrove, and affecting fisheries and out environment. A real eye opener for Florida residents.

  Cocoa Beach Writers Workshops are held Thursdays at 10:00 AM in the Captain’s Room. This round table discussion group gives authors the opportunity to have their works read and critiqued by fellow writers. Anyone interested in the craft of writing is welcome. City of Cocoa Beach Aquatic Adventure Camp for 12 - 15 years old, starts June 7 and ends June 18. Call 868-3314 for info Easy Hatha Yoga with Emily, Mondays at 2:00 PM beginning on June 7th through August 2nd. This is a safe, fun relaxing class. Emily Hain has studied yoga for 17 years and has taught for 8. Cost is $5.00 per session. Please wear comfortable clothing and bring a towel or a mat. Emily advises participants not to eat a heavy meal before the class

  Awesome Activities is held Thursday from 3-4 PM for ages 8 and up. June 10 Basket Weaving – weave a small kitchen basket the way our Florida ancestors did by using materials found in nature

Special Events features a series of instructional workshops suitable for ages 8 and up held on Thursday mornings from 9:30-10:30 AM. June’s schedule includes: June 10, 17 and 24 – Photography – a mini-photography class which will present framing techniques, perspective, composition and so much more. Take pictures and have them developed. Learn mounting and framing followed by sessions on scrapbooking next month. Supply list: any type camera, film (27 exposure is sufficient), scrapbook

  Sea Turtles on Our Beaches, a Powerpoint presentation by the Sea Turtle Preservation Society, Tuesday, June 15th at 1:00 PM. Learn the history of sea turtles on Brevard beaches, find out what you can do to protect them, and gain information on upcoming turtle walks.

Playreaders Group meets every third Tuesday at 2:00 PM in the Captain’s Room. Everyone who attends has a script and is encouraged to participate. Newcomers are always welcome. Call Barbara Clark for details at 783-5804.


Family Night is an entertaining and educational program which takes place Tuesday evenings at 6:30 for the whole family. Planned entertainment for this month includes: June 15 – Whale’s Tails – Pool, lake, beach and boating safety for kids. Come join Gretchen Smith from the American Red Cross for fun, games and a video designed to teach water safety skills to children ages 5-12. Supervised preschoolers are also welcome to participate. Bring an empty milk jug with cap to make a heaving “rescue jug” and learn simple lifesaving techniques.

  EX-WELK STARS, CLAY & SALLY HART TO PERFORM AT COCOA BEACH PUBLIC LIBRARY.  For Lawrence Welk fans, Clay and Sally Hart, will sing and reminisce about their “wunnerful” years as regular entertainers on the Lawrence Welk Show on Tuesday, June 22nd at 2:00 PM at Cocoa Beach Public Library.  Although it has been 22 years since the Lawrence Welk Show mesmerized millions of fans, the show’s enduring legacy lives on. The Harts, who were regulars on the show in the late sixties and early seventies, will be on hand to revive old memories. This program is free of charge.
