  Methods to the Jazzness, Sunday, April 3rd, 1:00-4:30 PM. The Spacecoast Jazz Society presents a free multimedia event, hosted by Society Outreach Director Steve Koenig. This unique program recognizes April as National Jazz Appreciation Month. A whole afternoon is scheduled to include multiple sessions and will feature a variety of opportunities to discover our Jazz Culture.

Volunteer Workday ~~ at the Maritime Hammock Preserve - park south of the Denny's Restaurant on S.R. A1A. BOB KAMM OF THE METROPOLITAN PLANNING ORGANIZATION TO SPEAK AT CITIZENS ACTION COMMITTEE MEETING AT COCOA BEACH PUBLIC LIBRARY.  The Citizens Action Committee will meet on Saturday, April 9th at 10:00 AM at Cocoa Beach Public Library. The speaker will be Bob Kamm, Staff Director of the Metropolitan Planning Organization. He will discuss transportation and the planning process. This meeting is free and open to the public.

  Music on a Sunday Afternoon presents Irving Berlin: The Man and his Music with pianist Marty Rosenberg, Sunday, April 10th at 2:00 PM. Marty will make the piano come alive with his musical tribute to Irving Berlin. Refreshments will be served.

  A Southern Family Blockaded in Alabama: A Living History Presentation with Confederate reinactor Lee Phillips, Tuesday, April 12th at 7:00 PM. Learn of the hardships faced by Confederate wives during the Civil War.

  INDONESIA FOLLOWING THE TSUNAMIS WITH JOHN TORRES OF FLORIDA TODAY AT COCOA BEACH PUBLIC LIBRARY.  John Torres of Florida Today will discuss his recent Trip to Indonesia following the Tsunamis on Wednesday, April 13th at 12:30 PM at the Cocoa Beach Public Library as part of a UOTS Cancer Service meeting. This meeting is free and open to the public.  Mr. Torres will describe his impressions, as well as show photographs. He will also discuss Hospice programs. UOTS is an all-volunteer cancer service organization which provides assistance for cancer patients.  For further information, please call UOTS members Ella Wright-Osment at 799-4713 or Sara Safer at 783-4847.

Trash Bash. In 2004 - 1,595 volunteers picked up 190,000 pounds of trash.  This year's theme - Sustain the Drive for Community Pride.  County-wide Effort!  Check in sites for Cocoa Beach:  Alan Shepard Park and Ramp Road.  Sponsored by: Keep Brevard Beautiful.  Free Tee Shirt for participants.

Relay for Life:  The American cancer Society presents its annual Relay for Life Fundraiser at Cocoa Beach High School on Saturday April 16 and April 17.  For info call 723-7737 Music on a Sunday Afternoon presents Meditational Music with Will Tuttle, Sunday, April 17th at 2:00 PM. An acclaimed pianist, composer and recording artist, as well as a Dharma Master in the Zen tradition and former philosophy professor, Will has performed widely through the U.S. Canada and Europe. Healthy Planet of Brevard will be serving healthy snacks and refreshments.

  Parisien Sculpture by Suzanne Parisien Frank, Monday, April 18th at 2:00 PM. French Canadian Sculptor, Suzanne will give a sculpture demonstration and speak about the art of sculpting. Her unique fine figurines in porcelain, white clay and terra cotta follow the creative forms of Erte, Rodin and Michaelangelo.

  The Central Guild of the Brevard Symphony Orchestra presents their Executive Director, Fran Delisle, who will speak about the history of the organization, the tenth year anniversary of the Music Director and Principal Conductor, Christopher Confessore, and the upcoming “2005-2006 season to stir your soul” on Thursday, April 21st from 11:30 AM-2:00 PM at Cocoa Beach Public Library. A light lunch will be served and a $5.00 donation will defray the cost. Please sign up at the Circulation Desk.

  Dominoes and Dice with psychic sensitive Chance Wyatt, Monday, April 25th at 3:00 PM. Wyatt will demonstrate the pre-Egyptian art of divination using dominoes and dice.

  “Legong”, Tuesday, April 26th at 6:30 PM. A documentary film photographed on the island of Bali in 1935, shot in early Technicolor, all native cast. Amazing dances and religious rites. New DVD includes restored pictures and soundtrack. Film showed courtesy of Jim Lasley, Lone Pine Productions.

  Ikebana with Betty Allison on Wednesdays, 1:30 – 3:30 PM on April 27, May 4, 11, 18, 25, June 1. Cost for the 6 week session is $40.00, which includes fresh flowers. Needle point holders will be available for $7.00, as will plastic oriental containers for $4.00. Ikebana is the art of arranging flowers and branches in a three dimensional design emphasizing beauty and simplicity. It evolved in Japan over 7 centuries. Betty is a certified teacher of the Sogetsu School.

T’ai Chi Chu’an with John Lang, A.P., Wednesdays at 9:00 AM. T’ai Chi uses natural movement emphasizing the legs and waist. John Lang is an acupuncture physician with over 30 years experience in T’ai Chi. Cost is $5.00 per session. Wear comfortable clothing and flat shoes.

Easy Hatha Yoga with Emily Hain, Thursdays at 2:00 PM. A sage, fun, non-competitive class taught by a certified Yoga instructor. Cost is $5.00 per session. Please wear comfortable clothing and bring a towel or a mat.

Book Discussion Groups meet on the 2nd Wednesday of every month at 10:00 AM and 7:30 PM. Join other book lovers in reading, reviewing and critiquing popular and classic fiction and non-fiction works. On March 9th, the morning group will discuss The Scarlet Letter, by Nathaniel Hawthorne, and the evening group will review Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time, by Mark Haddon.

Playreaders Group meets every third Tuesday at 2:00 PM in the Captain’s Room. Everyone who attends has a script and is encouraged to participate. Newcomers are always welcome. Call Barbara Clark for details at 455-2352.A Watercolor Group will meet on Thursdays from 1:00-4:00 in the Captain’s Room. This is a social, non-instructive painting group which is open to anyone with an interest in watercolors. All levels of skill are welcome. Bring your materials and paint with fellow artists. Cocoa Beach Writers Workshops are held Thursdays at 10:00 AM in the Captain’s Room. This round table discussion group gives authors the opportunity to have their works read and critiqued by fellow writers. Anyone interested in the craft of writing is welcome.
