  WATERCOLOR CLASSES WITH LINDA NEAL - Melbourne artist Linda Neal will teach watercolor classes, suitable for
beginning and intermediate students, on Tuesday mornings from 9:00 to noon, August 16, 23, 30 and Sept. 6, at Cocoa Beach Public Library. Cost is $40.00 for the 4 week session. To register, call the instructor at 544-8888 by August 9th. (Due to the popularity of this course, the library is running this extra session.) Neal is the owner/artist of Cottage Art & Frame in Melbourne. A versatile artist, she is also noted for her work with silhouettes, scherenschnitte (paper cutting), pastels and charcoal. She designed the official poster for the popular ArtWorks Festival held in Melbourne in 2004.

Contra Dance - 8:00 PM first Saturday of the month at Cocoa Beach Recreation Center. Mixed media artist Siri German will host an open house in the Community Room on Saturday, August 6th from 2:00 to 4:00 PM. German’s unique art is 3 dimensional, featuring shells and various flotsam and jetsam.

  Film and Food Festival:
• Scotland, Wednesday, August 10th at 1:00 PM. A land of untamed highlands, windswept islands and spectacular lochs, a millennium of struggle for self-determination has forged a hardy people, a vibrant culture and amazing hospitality. This 60 minute DVD features Loch Ness, Aberdeen, St. Andrews, 11 Edinburgh, Isle of Skye, Glasgow, Orkney Islands and Islay. A taste of British fare will be provided by The Pig & Whistle Pub.

Lighthouses: Guardians of the Night, Wednesday, August 24th at 1:00 PM. Revisit the golden age of the lighthouse and see many of the proud, majestic and formidable structures that stand firm against wave and wind. Lighthouses featured are from France, Canada, Great Britain and the United States. Sample some clam chowder from Barrier Jack’s. The video is 52 minutes.

Adult/Senior Exercise with Marilyn Allawas, Fridays at 2:00 PM through August 12th. Cost $3.00. Bring a towel or a mat, handweights, and wear comfortable clothing.

Easy Hatha Yoga with Emily Hain, Tuesdays at 2:00 PM, through August 9th. Cost is $5.00 per session.

Playreaders Group meets every third Tuesday at 2:00 PM in the Captain’s Room. Everyone who attends has a script and is encouraged to participate. Newcomers are always welcome. Call Barbara Clark for details at 455-2352.

A Watercolor Group will meet on Thursdays from 1:00-4:00 in the Captain’s Room. This is a social, non-instructive painting group which is open to anyone with an interest in watercolors. All levels of skill are welcome. Bring your materials and paint with fellow artists. For further information, contact Angela Richards at 784-0528.

Cocoa Beach Writers Workshops are held Thursdays at 10:00 AM in the Captain’s Room. This round table discussion group gives authors the opportunity to have their works read and critiqued by fellow writers. Anyone interested in the craft of writing is welcome. Call Mary Burruss at 783-6997
