  Diabetes Testing and Discussion with Dr. Fatima Phillips of Clinical Research Solutions. Monday, February 7th at 9:00 AM. This free Community Service Activity requires that patrons fast for 8 hours and fill out a consent form. A registered nurse will be available for dietary information or questions concerning results. - Cancelled.
Chris Combs, Marine Extension Agent, will discuss SEACOOS (South East Atlantic Coastal Ocean Observing System), on Monday, February 7th at 2:00 PM. This complex project is responsible for reporting wind speed/direction, water current, wave heights, and is of extreme importance in gathering data
during hurricane season. Citizens will be hearing more about it as the system grows and becomes more important everywhere.

  Photo Editing with Adobe Photoshop Elements with Jim Anderson, Tuesday, February 8th at 1:00 PM. This is a make up class to replace the one previously scheduled in October. All patrons who signed up for the previous class are still signed up. Cost is $5.00 and includes course material.
Al Neuharth, Founder of USA Today and Florida Today will speak about The Pioneering Days of USA Today and how it began here in Cocoa Beach, Tuesday, February 8th at 7:00 PM.

Beginning/Intermediate Watercolor classes taught by Sigi Oberlaender, Tuesdays, from 9:00 AM-noon February 8, 15, March 1, 8, 22, 29. Cost is $60.00. This class was postponed in January due to illness. All who previously signed up are still registered.

  CITIZENS ACTION COMMITTEE MEETING
WITH COUNTY COMMISSIONER RON PRITCHARD
AT COCOA BEACH PUBLIC LIBRARY.  The Citizens Action Committee will meet on Saturday, February 12th at 10:00 AM at Cocoa Beach Public Library. Guest speaker will be County Commissioner Ron Pritchard, who will discuss current issues. Pritchard represents District 2, which serves the people of Cocoa Beach, Merritt Island, Cape Canaveral, Cocoa, Avon by the Sea, Snug Harbor, Patrick Air Force Base, Port Canaveral and Kennedy Space Center. This meeting is open to the public. The Library is located at 550 N. Atlantic Ave., Cocoa Beach.

Erik Marcus, animal activist and author of Vegan: The New Ethics of Eating and Meat Market: Animals, Ethics and Money, will speak on Saturday, February 12th at 2:00 PM. Marcus’ goal is to keep animals from confinement and slaughter, and hopefully to help create a world in which slaughterhouses no longer exist. This program is sponsored by Healthy Planet of Brevard.

  Music on a Sunday Afternoon presents Lenore Raphael, “The Swingin’ Fox” on Sunday, February 13th at 2:00 PM. A top pianist on the contemporary Jazz scene, Lenore will thrill you with music for Ellington, Cole Porter, Gershwin and original tunes from her CD’s. Refreshments will be served.

Austrian Odyssey, Monday, February 14th at 1:00 and 7:00 PM.  The Bahamas, Monday, February 28th at 1:00 and 7:00 PM

  Local film “The History of Cocoa Beach: 1920’s and 30’s” will be shown Tuesday, February 15th at 2:00 PM. This film was produced by the late Nina Belle Fritz, former President of The Friends of the Cocoa Beach Library, in conjunction with Cocoa Beach High School teacher Dan Friend and his video students. Cocoa Beach native Pete Godke will be on hand to discuss the “Old Days”.

  Music on a Sunday Afternoon presents Austin Church, Sunday, February 20th at 2:00 PM. Church is a versatile singer/songwriter whose music contains elements of Country, Caribbean, Jazz, the 60’s with a little Rock-a-Billy thrown in. Demonstrating a remarkable versatility, his gritty style is reminiscent of Johnny Cash. Refreshments will be served.

T’ai Chi Chu’an with John Lang, A.P., Wednesdays at 9:00 AM. T’ai Chi uses natural movement emphasizing the legs and waist. John Lang is an acupuncture physician with over 30 years experience in T’ai Chi. Cost is $5.00 per session. Wear comfortable clothing and flat shoes.

Easy Hatha Yoga with Emily Hain, Thursdays at 2:00 PM. A sage, fun, non-competitive class taught by a certified Yoga instructor. Cost is $5.00 per session. Please wear comfortable clothing and bring a towel or a mat.

Book Discussion Groups meet on the 2nd Wednesday of every month at 10:00 AM and 7:30 PM. Join other book lovers in reading, reviewing and critiquing popular and classic fiction and non-fiction works. On February 9th , the morning Group will discuss Empire Falls, by Richard Russo and the evening group will review Raising the Hunley: The Remarkable History and Recovery of  the Lost Confederate Submarine, by Brian Hicks.

Playreaders Group meets every third Tuesday at 2:00 PM in the Captain’s Room. Everyone who attends has a script and is encouraged to participate. Newcomers are always welcome. Call Barbara Clark for details at 455-2352.

A Watercolor Group will meet on Thursdays from 1:00-4:00 in the Captain’s Room. This is a social, non-instructive painting group which is open to anyone with an interest in watercolors. All levels of skill are welcome.

Cocoa Beach Writers Workshops are held Thursdays at 10:00 AM in the Captain’s Room. This round table discussion group gives authors the opportunity to have their works read and critiqued by fellow writers. Anyone
interested in the craft of writing is welcome. Call Mary Burruss at 783-6997 for more information.
