Contra Dance - 8:00 PM first Saturday of the month at Cocoa Beach Recreation Center.

The Cocoa Beach Boating Club, as has kindly in the past, will sponsor a boat parade on this Independence Day, Monday July 4, 2005. The boats will rendezvous at mile marker 101 between 9:30 and 10AM, on the south side of SR520, near the bridge over the Banana River. The parade will start at 10:00 AM, proceed east to the Sunset Bar and Grill, then go south and pass through the various canals south of SR520 as in the past, ending at the west end of the Golf Course approximately 12:30PM.  The boats should be decorated in Red, White and Blue. 2005 Boating Club Commodore is Mr.Chuck Padgitt, phone 784-5965.

There will be a Captain's meeting at the Cocoa Beach Library on June 29 at 7PM. Contact Walter Blaser at 783-1207.

FIREWORKS NOTICE: City of Cocoa beach Police and Fire Departments want you to know: Use of Fireworks that fly or explode is ILLEGAL in the State of Florida without a permit issued by local authorities. These inlcude, but are not limited to: Roman Candles, Firecrackers, Bottle Rockets and Mortars. THE WAIVER YOU SIGNED AT PURCHASE IS NOT A PERMIT FOR USE! Violators may be cited or arrested. COCOA BEACH SKATE PARK TO OPEN ON JULY 4TH ~ ~

 

The newly constructed SKATE PARK in Cocoa Beach, located between Cocoa Beach Jr./Sr. High School and Roosevelt Elementary School on Minutemen Causeway, is scheduled for a "soft opening" on Monday, July 4th 2005 at 12:00 Noon.  Since this is a "soft opening event", skaters are asked to bring their own equipment.  Helmets, elbow and knee pads are required before park entry will be granted.  A fee of $3.00 per person for a 3-hour skate session will be charged.  All skaters will be required to sign a liability waiver before gaining access to the facility.  Skaters under the age of 18 must have a waiver signed by their parents in front of a Cocoa Beach Skatepark (CBS) employee or notarized and on file before participating.

Local psychic sensitive and author, M.F. “Chance” Wyatt will discuss the
Human Aura, which is part of the ephemeral energy field that surrounds the human body, on Wednesday, July 6th at 1:00 PM at Cocoa Beach Public Library. (This program has been rescheduled from June 8th.)

July 6, 13 – Learn to Knit – Make a stylish scarf with fancy yarn. Karin
Robinson will teach a knitting class for beginning and intermediate
knitters. Kits that include knitting needles and yarn are available for
$10. Pre-registration is required! 2-4 PM.

Ongoing Programs

Adult/Senior Exercise with Marilyn Allwas, Fridays at 2:00 PM through August 12th. Cost $3.00. Bring a towel or a mat, handweights, and wear comfortable clothing.

Easy Hatha Yoga with Emily Hain, Tuesdays at 2:00 PM, through August 9th. Cost is $5.00 per session.

Book Discussion Groups meet on the 2nd Wednesday of every month at 10:00 AM and 7:30 PM. Join other book lovers in reading, reviewing and critiquing
popular and classic fiction and non-fiction works. On July 6th , the morning group will discuss Ravelstein by Saul Bellow, and the evening group will read No Ordinary Time : Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt : The Home Front in World War II by Doris Goodwin over the summer, for discussion in September.

Playreaders Group meets every third Tuesday at 2:00 PM in the Captain’s Room. Everyone who attends has a script and is encouraged to participate.
Newcomers are always welcome. Call Barbara Clark for details at 455-2352.

A Watercolor Group will meet on Thursdays from 1:00-4:00 in the Captain’s Room. This is a social, non-instructive painting group which is open to anyone with an interest in watercolors. All levels of skill are welcome. Bring your materials and paint with fellow artists. For further information,

Cocoa Beach Writers Workshops are held Thursdays at 10:00 AM in the Captain’s Room. This round table discussion group gives authors the opportunity to have their works read and critiqued by fellow writers. Anyone
interested in the craft of writing is welcome. Call Mary Burruss at 783-6997 for more information.
