June 1through June 5, 2005, City Celebrates its 80th Birthday.
June 1 – Cocoa Beach Playhouse celebrates 45 years. 5:30PM - 7:30PM = In honor of the 80th Anniversary, the Cocoa Beach Area Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring its monthly "Wednesday-Friendsday" at the Cocoa Beach Holiday Inn; There is a plan to "preview" the new History of Cocoa Beach DVD being produced by Lone Pine Productions; Costs for the heavy snacks and one-complementary-drink followed by a pay-as-you-go-bar is $10 for Chamber of Commerce members and $15 for non-members.

6:00PM - 10:00PM = "A Taste of Cocoa Beach - Gala" at the Cocoa Beach Country Club - sponsored by the Cocoa Beach Women's Club. Attire is "Dressy Casual".
Events include: (a) Red Carpet Welcome from 6 to 7 PM with Master of Ceremonies Michael Low, 99.3 Lite Rock. Cocoa Beach High School with provide musical selections; (b) Honor Guard Presentation of Colors; (c) Bands/Dancing - (Auditorium) "Derek & TheSlammers" and (Restaurant/Lounge area) "Jammin Joe and Josh" for your entertainment/pleasure; (d) Food - "Specialty Samplers" from local area restauranteurs; (e) Historical Presentations - local service clubs and non-profit organizations displays highlighting their work on behalf of Cocoa Beach; Historical Space Program Memorablila; Astronaut Space Suit, etc. The cost is $15 per person includes dining, dancing and one beverage-of-choice |

9:30AM = Initial set up/Line-up at "Glass Bank area" for participants/floats/cars for "Anniversary-Birthday Parade"
10:00AM = Initial set up of vendors, displays, food, beverages, entertainment in vicinity of City Hall, Minutemen Causeway and Brevard Avenue for "Street Party"
11:00AM = Anniversary-Birthday Parade begins at Glass Bank and proceeds south down Orlando Avenue and making a right turn onto 1st Street South; The parade route then makes a right turn (heading north) on Brevard Avenue following a direct path back to the Glass Bank parking lot where the parade ends at Noon.
Parade participants include Ms. Florida and 4th Runner-Up in Ms. USA contest, Melissa Witek as Parade Marshal; military color guards; Mt. Zion Choir Group;
Elected Officials in vehicles; 40+ hot rod cars; Charity-event Motorcycle Group (1/2 parade then continuing south down A1A to Melbourne Beach area); and a possible showing of parade horses (at the end).
12:00 Noon - 11:00PM = "Anniversary-Birthday Party In The Street" at the intersection of Minutemen Causeway and Brevard Avenue and areas surrounding City Hall.
On-Stage musical entertainment to include: "Don't Quit Your Day Job" - band and other 70's/Rock & Roll performances; Mt. Zion Choir; Faith-based acoustic gutar performance; Brevard Community College musical ensamble; and others. Activities for kids in the vacant grassy areas behind City Hall are planned. Soft drinks, beer and out-door cookout hamburgers and hot dogs will be available.
Other Activities During the Day (Saturday): Brevard County is offering very reduced price "canoe tours" throughout the South Thousand Islands area starting from the boat launch area at the end of Ramp Road in Cocoa Beach. Also, from 11:00AM - 4:00PM, Cocoa Beach Kayaking is offering 20-minute guided nature tours for $5.00 per person at Ramp Road Park. Saturday will also be the start of a 2-day "Waterman's Challenge" surfing contest at the beach end of Minutemen Causeway...this contest will conclude on Sunday. There may also be a 5K run organized for Saturday morning (plans pending). The Cocoa Beach Historical DVD video by Lone Pines Production will also be shown throughout the day in the City Hall Commission Room. |
