The Friends of the Cocoa Beach Library will
sponsor Florida author Randy Wayne White at their annual author’s luncheon on
Saturday March 19th at Cocoa Beach Hilton. Time and details to be determined. AUTHOR RANDY WAYNE WHITE TO SPEAK IN COCOA BEACH ON SATURDAY, MARCH 19th - Tickets are on sale now for the Friends of the Cocoa Beach Library Annual Book and Author Luncheon to be held on Saturday, March 19th at the Hilton Oceanfront Hotel in Cocoa Beach. Florida fiction writer and journalist Randy Wayne White will be the featured speaker. The event will begin with a social hour and book signing of White’s newest novel, Dead of Night, at 11:30 AM, and lunch at 12:15, followed by a speech by the author. Tickets for $15 are available in person or by mail at the Cocoa Beach Public Library, 550 N. Brevard Ave., Cocoa Beach, FL 32931-4326. Checks should be made payable to the Friends of the Cocoa Beach Library. Tickets must be purchased no later than March 16th. Randy Wayne White is a fiction writer and journalist based in Southwest, Florida, and his concerns in novels and nonfiction alike are ecology, adventure, and the pursuit of unconventional activities. As a fiction writer, White is best known for a sleuth named Doc Ford, an ex-CIA spook turned wildlife biologist who cannot keep clear of trouble. White’s novels feature straight-ahead, leather-tough realism akin to John D. MacDonald’s “Travis McGee” series. The books also take issue with the exploitation of the environment, a theme common to Florida writers of all types. White’s nonfiction books include his best writing from Outside magazine, for which he completed many bizarre assignments. Some of them are written with tongue-in cheek humor, while others have a more serious purpose and scope. He has been awarded the Conch Republic Prize for Literature, as well as the prestigious John D. MacDonald Award for Literary Excellence. |
