Displays, slides, beach walks, contests and discussions will make this an interesting weekend. People in Print presents Ron McFarland, who will read from his hilarious memoir of growing up in Brevard County entitled ”Confessions of a Night Librarian and other Embarrassments”, on Sunday, October 16th at 2:00 PM. McFarland attended Brevard Junior College and Florida State before moving out of state. He has been a professor at University of Idaho for the past 35 years, where he has taught creative writing. He has previously published 14 books of poetry and several periodical articles and monographs. |

Eating the Earth – A Bit at a Time with Howard Lyman (The Mad Cowboy Who Won’t Eat Beef), Friday, October 21st at 7:00 PM. Lyman is a 4th generation cattle rancher (and vegan) and is now a food safety expert, who was involved in the famous Oprah Winfrey Beef Trial. His goal is to educate people on the dangers of current methods of food production. He will show excerpts from his DVD Mad Cowboy: The Documentary!, and sell and sign copies of his new book No More Bull: The Mad Cowboy Targets America’s Worst Enemy: Our Diet. |

| Ongoing Programs | Ongoing Programs | ONGOING: Book Discussion Groups meet on the 2nd Wednesday of the month at 10:00 AM and 7:30 PM. On October 12, the morning group will discuss Middlemarch by George Eliot and the evening group will review My Sister’s Keeper by Jodi Picoult. Playreaders Group meets every third Tuesday at 2:00 PM in the Captain’s Room. Everyone who attends has a script and is encouraged to participate. Newcomers are always welcome. Call Barbara Clark for details at 455-2352. A Watercolor Group will meet on Thursdays from 1:00-4:00 in the Captain’s Room. This is a social, non-instructive painting group which is open to anyone with an interest in watercolors. All levels of skill are welcome. Cocoa Beach Writers Workshops are held Thursdays at 10:00 AM in the Captain’s Room. This round table discussion group gives authors the opportunity to have their works read and critiqued by fellow writers. Anyone interested in the craft of writing is welcome.
