10th Annual International Sea Bean Symposium 2005, Friday, October 14th, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM and Saturday, October 15th, 9:00 AM – 9:00 PM. Noted scientists, authors and enthusiasts of sea-beans and other drifting materials will be present for this 2-day event. Displays, slides, beach walks, contests and discussions will make this an interesting weekend. Beach walkers, oceanographers, scientists, botanists, surfers, jewelry makers and nature writers discuss and answer your questions about ocean treasures.

Eating the Earth – A Bit at a Time with Howard Lyman (The Mad Cowboy Who Won’t Eat Beef), Friday, October 21st at 7:00 PM. Lyman is a 4th generation cattle rancher (and vegan) and is now a food safety expert, who was involved in the famous Oprah Winfrey Beef Trial. His goal is to educate people on the dangers of current methods of food production. He will show excerpts from his DVD Mad Cowboy: The Documentary!, and sell and sign copies of his new book No More Bull: The Mad Cowboy Targets America’s Worst Enemy: Our Diet.

Spirits Visit the Earth slide show with psychic sensitive M.F. “Chance” Wyatt, Wednesday, October 26th at 1:00 PM. A slide presentation of more than 140 pictures of spirits that have appeared in Brevard County. Just in time for Hallowe’en!

Listening to Heroes - Dr. Donald Stewart will speak about counseling New York Firefighters after 9/11 on Friday, October 28th at 1:00 PM. Cocoa Beach psychologist will discuss how he has helped N.Y. firefighters cope with tragedy following 9/11.

Book Discussion Groups meet on the 2nd Wednesday of the month at 10:00 AM and 7:30 PM. On October 12, the morning group will discuss Middlemarch by George Eliot and the evening group will review My Sister’s Keeper by Jodi Picoult.

Playreaders Group meets every third Tuesday at 2:00 PM in the Captain’s Room. Everyone who attends has a script and is encouraged to participate. Newcomers are always welcome. Call Barbara Clark for details at 455-2352.

A Watercolor Group will meet on Thursdays from 1:00-4:00 in the Captain’s Room. This is a social, non-instructive painting group which is open to anyone with an interest in watercolors. All levels of skill are welcome.

Cocoa Beach Writers Workshops are held Thursdays at 10:00 AM in the Captain’s Room.
