  Music on a Sunday Afternoon kicks off Jazz Appreciation Month with Jazz vocalist Sybil Gage on Sunday, April 2nd at 2:00 PM. Being born and growing up in New Orlean’s Garden District gave her exposure and opportunity to work with musical legends such as Henry Butler,Willie Metcalf, James Booker, to name a few. She is a graduate of New York niversity and has performed with The Drifters and Terry King. Her current album, which contains many of her own ompositions, is “Busking Allowed – Sybil Sings!”

  Learn to fashion a unique nature craft from philodendron calyxes with Marion
Anderson on Monday, April 3rd at 2:00 PM.
Jim Anderson will give An Overview of Microsoft Office on Monday, April 3rd at 6:30 PM. Cost is $5.00 and includes course material.

  Florida Extension Agent and newspaper columnist Sally Scalera will discuss
Ornamental Plants for the Landscape on Tuesday, April 4th at 10:00AM. Cost
for the session is $5.00 and includes handouts.
Wetland Biologist Tim Kozusko will give a PowerPoint presentation about Lake
Okeechobee – Sugar Farming and Water Management on Tuesday, April 4th at 7:00 PM.

  Friends of the Library Annual Author luncheon will host Stuart Woods on Saturday, April 15th at the Cocoa Beach Holiday Inn at 11:30 AM. Cost is $20.00 and there is a choice of either Chicken Marsala or a Vegetarian entree. Woods has published 31 novels and has received the Edgar Allen Poe award for Mystery Writers of America, as well as France’s Prix de literature Policiere. He is best known for his Stone Barrington and Holly Barker novels. Dark Harbor, a new Stone Barrington novel will be released on April 11th and available for purchase at the luncheon.
Florida author Tim Dorsey will speak about the writing process and sign his new book, The Big Bamboo, on Tuesday, April 5th at 2:30 PM. Dorsey is the author of Hammerhead Ranch Motel, Florida Roadkill, Orange Crush and
others. His stories, all set in Florida, are inhabited by a cast of characters who, in any other state would be behind bars! Tim Dorsey will also speak on Wednesday, April 5th at 2:30 PM.

  You Mean There’s Good News About Aging? with Mary Kay Kantz, Wednesday,
April 26th at 1:00 PM. The notion that we lose control over our lives as we
grow old is not necessarily true. This presentation explores ways you can
influence the aging process – physically, mentally, socially, spiritually.
Mary Kay is a retired law school instructor who now speaks to community
groups on topics related to intelligent aging and the latest advances in
aging research.

  Local musician Chris Kahl will give a musical tribute to Florida on Sunday, April 30th at 2:00 PM as part of the library’s Music on a Sunday Afternoon series. Kahl loves Florida so much that after spending the past five years in London, he returned to the Sunshine State to release an album dedicated to his birthplace. Orange Blossom Memories chronicles much of Florida’s history, including the space program, hurricanes, Henry Flagler’s East Coast Railroad and Ponce de Leon’s discovery of the state in 1513. Refreshments will be served.

Easy Hatha Yoga with Emily Hain, Tuesdays at 2:00 PM through May 23rd. Cost is $5.00 Wear comfortable clothing and bring a towel or a mat.

T’ai Chi Chu’an with John Lang, AP, Wednesdays at 9:00 AM through May 24.
Cost is $5.00per session. Wear flat soled shoes and dress comfortably.

Book Discussion Groups meet on the 2nd Wednesday of the month at 10:00 AM
and 7:30 PM. In April, the morning group will discuss The Secret Agent by Joseph Conrad and the evening group will review Glass Castles by Jeanenette Wills.

Playreaders Group meets every third Tuesday at 2:00 PM in the Captain’s Room. Everyone who attends has a script and is encouraged to participate. Newcomers are always welcome. Call Barbara Clark for details at 455-2352.

A Watercolor Group will meet on Thursdays from 1:00-4:00 in the Captain’s Room. This is a social, non-instructive painting group which is open to anyone with an interest in watercolors. All levels of skill are welcome.

Cocoa Beach Writers Workshops are held Thursdays at 10:00 AM in the Captain’s Room. This round table discussion group gives authors the opportunity to have their works read and critiqued by fellow writers. Anyone
