Movies in the Park (ing lot) at City Hall, 2 South Orlando Avenue, 6:30 PM, Info - Call 868-3252 | THE BIG READ: TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD by HARPER LEE. The Brevard County Library System has been awarded a $20,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with the Institute of Museum and Library Services and Arts Midwest, as one of 100 organizations across the U.S. to plan the BIG READ for their community. The Big Read is a program created to engage libraries and other community and school partners in encouraging residents to read for pleasure and enlightenment. Brevard libraries will focus on the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel To Kill a Mockingbird by author Harper Lee and will plan community reading events with a variety of activities throughout the month of February. To kick off the Big Read the Annual Friends of the Cocoa Beach Library Author Luncheon will feature Charles J. Shields author of Mockingbird: A Portrait of Harper Lee, Saturday, February 3rd at Cocoa Beach Holiday Inn at 11:30 AM. Cost is $20.00, and offers a choice of Chicken Marsala or Parmesan Primavera. Tickets are available at the library through January 30th. Shields will talk about and sign his unauthorized biography of this reclusive author. The author spent 4 years speaking to hundred’s of Lee’s neighbors, friends, classmates and culling facts from Truman Capote’s archives and other collections, as well as the Monroe County, AL courthouse. |

Music on a Sunday Afternoon presents a 2 part series with Marty Rosenberg entitled “The Hollywood Musicals in the 30’s, 40’s and 50’s”, Part I - Sunday, February 4th at 2:00 PM will cover the period from 1929-1945. Part II – Sunday, February 11th at 2:00 PM will encompass 1946-1959. A retired music teacher, Marty will make the piano come alive and discuss the Hollywood legacy in this 2 part series. |

Friends of the Library Travel Film series continues with showings at 1:30 & 7:00 PM on: • Monday, February 5th – Yosemite. This moving film evokes the spectacular, primeval Yosemite of 100 years ago and looks at the contrast of Yosemite today, a park that accommodates over three million visitors per year. (58 minutes) • Monday, February 19th – East Africa. Explore Lake Victoria, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania and Zanzibar. Topics covered include sports, transportation, ethnicities, the Swahili culture and the tragedy of Uganda. (61 minutes.) |

Florida author Tim Dorsey will speak about the writing process and sign his new book Hurricane Punch, Monday, February 5th at 3:00 PM. Dorsey is the author of Florida Roadkill, The Big Bamboo, Orange Crush and others. His stories, all set in Florida, are inhabited by a cast of characters, who in any other state would be behind bars!

The 1715 Plate Fleet Treasure with Sue Perry, Tuesday, February 6th at 7:00 PM. Historian Sue Perry will discuss the 11 ships laden with treasure, that in the day was worth $13 million, wrecked off Sebastian Inlet in July 1715, during a hurricane. She will explain the religious and political situation surrounding the struggles for the sunken treasure, and will trace the remains of the recovered booty through several generations. |

| Ongoing Programs | Ongoing: Open Meeting with Commissioner Chuck Nelson, 4th Friday of every month (except November) 9:00-11:00 AM in the Captain’s Room. Come and speak to the Commissioner and share your views and concerns at these open meetings. Hatha Yoga for Seniors with Emily Hain, a Certified Yoga Instructor, on Tuesdays, 1:00 – 1:45 PM continuing through May 22nd. No experience or special equipment is necessary; chairs will be used for support. Cost is $2.00 per class. Learn how yoga can help keep you more healthy and active. Easy Hatha Yoga with Emily Hain, Tuesdays at 2:00 PM through May 22nd . Cost is $5.00 per session. Bring a towel or a mat and wear comfortable clothing. T’ai Chi Chu’an with John Lang A.P., Wednesdays at 9:00 AM, through May 30th. Cost is $5.00. Wear comfortable clothing and flat soled shoes. Book Discussion Groups meet on the 2nd Wednesday of the month at 10:00 AM and 7:30 PM. On February 14th, both groups will discuss To Kill a Mockingbird, by Harper Lee, as part of The Big Read, an initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with the Institute of Museum and Library Services and Arts Midwest. Brevard County Libraries will focus on the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee and will plan community events with a variety of activities throughout the month of February. Playreaders Group meets every third Tuesday at 2:00 PM in the Captain’s Room. Everyone who attends has a script and is encouraged to participate. A Watercolor Group will meet on Thursdays from 1:00-4:00 in the Captain’s Room. This is a social, non-instructive painting group which is open to anyone with an interest in watercolors. All levels of skill are welcome. Cocoa Beach Writers Workshops are held Thursdays at 10:00 AM in the Captain’s Room. This round table discussion group gives authors the opportunity to have their works read and critiqued by fellow writers. Anyone interested in the craft of writing is welcome.
