  Paper Batik is Fun & Easy with JoAnne Jenson, Tuesday, January 10th from 9:00 Am to noon. Cost is $30.00, prepaid by January 5th. Everything you need is provided. Show up empty handed, and leave 3 hours later with several completed pieces. Jenson is a highly skilled fiber artist, art teacher and studio own, who studied internationally with acclaimed fiberartist Lois Rector. Class size limited to 10.
Computer Fundamentals with Jim Anderson, Tuesday, January 10th at 6:30 PM.
Cost is $5.00 and includes course materials.
Easy Hatha Yoga with Emily Hain, Tuesdays at 2:00 PM, January 10th through May 23rd. Cost is $5.00 per session. Wear comfortable clothing and bring a towel or a mat.

Statin Drugs – Side Effects, with Duane “Spacedoc” Graveline, MD, Wednesday, January 11 at 7:00 PM. A former astronaut, aerospace medical research scientist and family physician will discuss the complex connection between cholesterol and health and the effects of statin drugs.

  Early Music Ensemble, Sunday, January 15th at 2:00 PM. Music on a Sunday Afternoon kicks off the New Year with medieval and renaissance music played on authentic instruments of the time by fully costumed musicians. If you’ve never heard a crumhorn or a zink, you’re in for a unique treat. Refreshments will be served.

Storytime Storyteller “Grandpa” Wyatt will tell stories and perform comedy magic for grown ups on Tuesday, January 17th at 6:30 PM. This seasoned storyteller will delight and amuse you with intriguing tales and accompanying magic tricks.

Life Writing Class - with Natasha Lawrence, a freelance journalist, 10 am in the Captain's Room - cost $10. Limited 15 participants.

  UFO’s anyone? People in Print presents Science Fiction author Victor Norgarde AKA Dr. John Brandeberg who will discuss and sign his book Morningstar Pass: The Collapse of the UFO Cover-up, on Wednesday, January 18th at 7:00 PM. Prepare yourself for a journey into one of the darkest possible scenarios concerning the UFO/government cover up.

  Ikebana with Betty Allison on Thursdays, January 19th through February 23rd from 11:30-2:30. Cost for the 6 week course is $40.00, which includes fresh flowers. Needle point holders will be available for $7.00, as will plastic oriental containers for $4.00. Ikebana is the art of arranging flowers and branches in a three dimensional design emphasizing beauty and simplicity. It evolved in Japan over seven centuries. Antiques and Collectibles Show and Tell with Linda Margolis, Tuesday, January 24th at 6:30 PM. Back by popular demand, Linda, founder and coordinator of The Brevard Antiques and Collectors Club, will share the joys of collecting and identify items brought by patrons. (No appraisals will be
given.)

  People in Print presents Goldie Guttenberg, who will sign and speak about Speed Demon: Reckless Driver…or Heartless Killer?, on Wednesday, January 25th at 1:00 PM. Journalist Guttenberg has researched the sensational trial of Mary Hill, who crashed her BMW on August 7th, 2000 in Lake Mary, killing her daughter Amy and Carrie Brown outright and leaving another boy with brain damage.

ROBERT E. LAWTON PAVILION DEDICATION CEREMONYFormer City of Cocoa Beach Mayor, Robert E. Lawton, will be honored at a Dedication Ceremony at the Cocoa Beach Community Pool Pavilion (Tom Warriner Boulevard) on Sunday, January 29, 2006 at 1:00PM.  Lawton, one of the City's longest-serving Mayors, held the position for 9 years from 1984 to 1993.  Among his many accomplishments, Mayor Lawton was instrumental in the complete renovation of the City's Olympic-sized pool complex that was originally built in the early 1960's.  The public is invited and light refreshments will be served.  Please contact the City Manager's Office at (321) 868-3201 for further information about this event.

Book Discussion Groups meet on the 2nd Wednesday of the month at 10:00 AM and 7:30 PM. On January 11th, the morning group will discuss Sign Talker by James Alexander Thom and the evening group will review Saturday by Ian McEwan.

Playreaders Group meets every third Tuesday at 2:00 PM in the Captain’s Room. Everyone who attends has a script and is encouraged to participate. Newcomers are always welcome. Call Barbara Clark for details at 455-2352.

A Watercolor Group will meet on Thursdays from 1:00-4:00 in the Captain’s Room. This is a social, non-instructive painting group which is open to anyone with an interest in watercolors. All levels of skill are welcome. Bring your materials and paint with fellow artists. For further information, contact Angela Richards at 784-0528.

Cocoa Beach Writers Workshops are held Thursdays at 10:00 AM in the Captain’s Room. This round table discussion group gives authors the opportunity to have their works read and critiqued by fellow writers. Anyone interested in the craft of writing is welcome.
