7		WATERCOLOR CLASSES WITH LINDA NEAL AT COCOA BEACH PUBLIC LIBRARY Melbourne artist Linda Neal will teach 2 sessions of watercolor classes, suitable for beginning and intermediate students, at Cocoa Beach Public Library. Cost is $40.00 for each 4 week session. Session 1 will be held Tuesday mornings from 9:00 AM to noon on May 31, June 7, 14 and 21. Session 2 will also be held on Tuesday mornings July 12, 19, 26 and August 2. To register, call the instructor at 544-8888. Neal is the owner/artist of Cottage Art & Frame in Melbourne. A versatile artist, she is also noted for her work with silhouettes, scherenschnitte (paper cutting), pastels and charcoal. She designed the official poster for the popular ArtWorks Festival held in Melbourne in 2004.

19		Learning New Skills, Acquiring New Knowledge: Age Is No Barrier, with Mary Kay Kantz, Monday, June 19th at 1:00 PM. Part of the Intelligent Aging Series. This presentation discusses new things we can tackle successfully at a time of life when we have the time to devote to new ventures.

20		Starting with Orchids with Joe & Boon Bryson, Tuesday, June 20th at 6:30 PM. Nationally acclaimed judge Joe Bryson will conduct an informal interactive session aimed at the novice orchid grower. Some orchids will be available for purchase.

23		Hurricanes in Florida with “Hurricane John” Williams, Friday, June 23rd at 2:00 PM. ‘Tis almost the season…again! Learn the facts about hurricanes from John Williams, U.S. Army (retired), who runs the Hurricane Research Program at Florida Tech. An informative and exciting program and power-point presentation by the author of Florida Hurricanes and Tropical Storms 1971-1996. Williams has flown about 12 reconnaissance missions into hurricanes.

30 & 31		Getting to Know Your Digital Camera with photographer Melissa Abernethy, Friday, June 30th at 2:00 PM. Please bring your digital camera and manuals, and any specific questions you may have. Sign up at the circulation desk.
Ongoing Programs		ONGOING: Book Discussion Groups meet on the 2nd Wednesday of the month at 10:00 AM and 7:30 PM. In, the morning group will discuss Lord of the Flies by William Golding, and the evening group will review The Last Painting by Jonathan Harr. Playreaders Group meets every third Tuesday at 2:00 PM in the Captain’s Room. Everyone who attends has a script and is encouraged to participate. Newcomers are always welcome. Call Barbara Clark for details at 455-2352. A Watercolor Group will meet on Thursdays from 1:00-4:00 in the Captain’s Room. This is a social, non-instructive painting group which is open to anyone with an interest in watercolors. All levels of skill are welcome. Bring your materials and paint with fellow artists. For further information, contact Angela Richards at 784-0528. Cocoa Beach Writers Workshops are held Thursdays at 10:00 AM in the Captain’s Room. This round table discussion group gives authors the opportunity to have their works read and critiqued by fellow writers. Anyone interested in the craft of writing is welcome.
