• Switzerland, Monday, February 4th. Switzerland is a small country in Western Europe, but its diversity is world renowned. This 55 minute film will explore the major regions of the country, the highlands, and other favorite tourist destinations.

Preventing Fraud, with Beth Sheppard from the Brevard County Extension and University of Florida, Tuesday, February 5th 10:00-11:00 AM in the Jane von Thron Room. Does it scare you that someone could take your identity? This class will teach ways to avoid fraud and get your good name cleared. Cost is $5.00. Open House Saturday, February 9th at 1:00 PM. Listen to some special occasion music played by Joseph and Lynn Grey on violin and guitar, and get acquainted with all the new changes in the library. Refreshments will be served by Friends of the Library.

Music on a Sunday Afternoon presents Austin Church on Sunday, February 10th at 2:00 PM for some  country-folk, Americana, Caribbean with a little Rock-a-Billy thrown in. Demonstrating a remarkable versatility, his gritty style is reminiscent of Johnny Cash. Opening Act will be 2nd prize winner of the First Amateur Singer/Songwriter Contest – Mark Jensen, who will perform two original songs.

Marine Mammals with Kathleen Bennett, Wednesday, February 13th at 7:00 PM. Learn about the marine mammals in the Indian River Lagoon from a manatee behavioral specialist and nature kayaking guide. Copies of her book, The Adventures of Kacker the Kayaker: Learning About Manatees: Margarette the Manatee Finds Pollution will be available for $7.00

Annual Friends of the Library Author Luncheon featuring longtime NBC Space Correspondent and author Jay Barbree on Saturday, February 23rd at Cocoa Beach Holiday in at 11:30 AM. Jay will discuss, sign and sell his new book Live from Cape Canaveral, and reminisce about his days as a reporter who “lived among the astronauts, socialized with them and watched as they strapped themselves into small metal containers perched atop unimaginable explosion force”.

Adventure to the Bottom of the Ocean with Ralph Hollis, Wednesday, February 27th at 2:00 PM. Find out what it is truly like in an alien world that is just next door. Hollis was Chief Pilot of the submersible “Alvin”, and the Expedition Leader of the first visit to the Titanic. He will share some of his deep sea adventures on the bottom of the ocean, including the first visit to the Titanic, in a powerpoint presentation. People in Print presents Lee Boyland, author of The Rings of Allah and Behold, an Ashen Horse, Wednesday, February 27th at 7:00 PM in the Jane von Thron Room. Weapons expert and author, Boyland’s storyline explores Al-Qaeda’splot to destroy the U.S., triggering the clash of civilizations building for 1400 years. Only one will survive.

Hatha Yoga for Seniors with Emily Hain, a Certified Yoga Instructor, on Tuesdays, 1:00-1:45 PM, January 8th through May 20th. No experience or special equipment is necessary; chairs will be used for support. Cost is $2.00 per class. Learn how yoga can help keep you more healthy and active. This 45 minute class is designed to warm up the body, improve your balance and maintain strength and flexibility in a relaxing and non-competitive style.

Easy Hatha Yoga with Emily Hain, Tuesdays at 2:00 PM, January 8 through May 20th , Cost is $5.00 per session. This is a safe, fun, relaxing and non-competitive class. Bring a towel or a mat and wear comfortable clothing.

Senior Fit Aerobics with personal trainer Polly Helm, Tuesdays, January 8 through May 20th, 4:00-5:00 PM. An easy does it aerobics with a warm up and cool down 20 minutes long, featuring a chair based workout intended to tone the upper and lower body. Please bring a set of light weights, water and a towel. Cost is $5.00.

T’ai Chi Chu’an with John Lang A.P., Wednesdays at 9:00 AM, January 9 through May 21st. Cost is $5.00.  T’ai Chi is a unique system of moving meditation with exercise emphasizing legs and posture, and meditation of mind and breath. Wear comfortable clothing and flat soled shoes.

Open Meeting with Commissioner Chuck Nelson, 4th Friday of every month 9:00-11:00 AM in the Captain’s Room. Come and speak to the Commissioner and share your views and concerns at these open meetings.

Playreaders Group meets every third Tuesday at 2:00 PM in the Captain’s Room. Everyone who attends has a script and is encouraged to participate. Newcomers are always welcome. Call Barbara Clark for details at 452-3985.

Book Discussion Groups meet on the 2nd Wednesday of the month at 10:00 AM and 7:30 PM in the West Room.  On February 13th , the morning group will discuss A Farewell to Arms by Ernest Hemingway, and the evening group will review Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen.

A Watercolor Group will meet on Thursdays from 1:00-4:00 in the West Room. This is a social, non-instructive painting group which is open to anyone with an interest in watercolors.
