A Day of Meditation with Solana Walton, including yoga and a DVD, January 4th from 9:30 AM-5:00 PM.

• 1:00-5:00 PM – Easy Meditation for Greater Peace of Mind featuring the Amrita Meditation Technique developed by world-renowned Indian spiritual leader Amma.
  
  The classes are taught by Solana, a long time yoga instructor and an experienced practitioner of the technique. (Bring a towel or mat for some easy exercise movements before the meditation.)

Stress: The Causes and Cures with Dr.Marco Di Bonaventura, Ph.d, O.M.D., Monday, January 7th at 7:00 PM in the Jane von Thron Room.  This informative lecture allows the participants to discover how stress affects the body and simple things they can do at work or at home to reduce the negative effects of stress. Hatha Yoga for Seniors with Emily Hain, a Certified Yoga Instructor, on Tuesdays, 1:00-1:45 PM, January 8th through May 19th. No experience or special equipment is necessary; chairs will be used for support. Cost is $2.00 per class. Learn how yoga can help keep you more healthy and active. This 45 minute class is designed to warm up the body, improve your balance and maintain strength and flexibility in a relaxing and non-competitive style.

Easy Hatha Yoga with Emily Hain, Tuesdays at 2:00 PM, January 8 through May 19th , Cost is $5.00 per session. This is a safe, fun, relaxing and non-competitive class. Bring a towel or a mat and wear comfortable clothing.

Senior Fit Aerobics with personal trainer Polly Helm, Tuesdays, January 8 through May 19th, 4:00-5:00 PM. An easy does it aerobics with a warm up and cool down 20 minutes long, featuring a chair based workout intended to tone the upper and lower body. Please bring a set of light weights, water and a towel. Cost is $5.00.

Basic Spanish for Beginners, Tuesdays, dates and times to be determined. Cost is $40.00 for the 8 week course, Class size limited to 20 students. This class is targeted for adults with no prior knowledge of the language. Class size is limited, please register at the Sign Up table.

T’ai Chi Chu’an with John Lang A.P., Wednesdays at 9:00 AM, January 9 through May 20th. Cost is $5.00.  T’ai Chi is a unique system of moving meditation with exercise emphasizing legs and posture, and meditation of mind and breath. Wear comfortable clothing and flat soled shoes.

People in Print presents romantic suspense writer Kay Williamson on Wednesday, January 9th at 2:00 PM in the Jane von Thron Room.  She’ll be signing and selling her latest novel Murder on the Starlight Express.  Kay’s work is published in various literary anthologies and magazines. Her romantic suspense novels include Ghostly Whispers, Bridge to Nowhere, Listen to the Heart as well as Time After Time. She is a published songwriter, playwright and former elementary teacher. Former students might remember her as Kay Spruill.

The Dick-Doc Duo, a musical evening, Wednesday, January 9th at 7:00 PM. Retired Homicide Detective (dick) Marshall Frank has teamed up with Retired Medical Examiner (doc) Jay Barnhart to play some popular, familiar tunes on violin and piano. A rollicking evening of fun.

Watercolor Classes with award winning watercolor artist Helen Wheatley, Tuesdays 9:00 AM-noon, January 15 – March 4. Suitable for Beginning and Intermediate level students. Antiques and Collectibles Show & Tell with Linda Margolis, Tuesday, January 15th at 6:30 PM.  Linda, founder of the Brevard Antiques and Collectibles Club presents guest speaker Jerry Kline, renowned potter, author and lecturer, who specializes in art pottery. His book, Florence Ceramics : A Labor of Love will be available for $30.00. Bring an item of pottery for identification. No appraisals will be given.

Jay will discuss, sign and sell his new book, Live from Cape Canaveral, and reminisce about his days as a reporter who “lived among the astronauts, socialized with them and watched as they strapped themselves into small metal containers perched atop unimaginable explosion force”.

Florida author Tim Dorsey will speak about the writing process and sign his new book, Atomic Lobster, on Wednesday, January 30th at 3:30 PM. Dorsey is the author of Hurricane Punch, Florida Roadkill, Orange Crush and others. His stories, all set in Florida, are inhabited by a cast of characters, who in any other state would be behind bars!

Book Discussion Groups meet on the 2nd Wednesday of the month at 10:00 AM and 7:30 PM in the West Room.  On January 9th, the morning group will discuss The Maltese Falcon by Dashiell Hammett, and the evening group will review Secret Servant by DanielSilva. .

A Watercolor Group will meet on Thursdays from 1:00-4:00 in the West Room. This is a social, non-instructive painting group which is open to anyone with an interest in watercolors.
