Clay Handbuilding Workshop with Suzanne Frank,  Mondays, November 3, 10, 17 & 24 from 9:30 AM– 12:00 PM in the Jane von Thron Room. Cost is $70.00 and is non-refundable. Clay materials and tools provided, plus firing. Each student will be given clay and tools and will learn to make art objects using clay as a medium. Please register at the sign up table.

Veterans Day Ceremony - Hosted by Cocoa Beach Elks Lodge at the Cocoa Beach Country Club Pavilion From 2Pm to 8PM. Finger foods and dinner will be served $15 donation. Ceremony at 3PM. Color Guard Provided by Cocoa Beach High School Army JROTC Unit. For info call 321 783-4705. Open to the Public. Tickets for Sale at ELKs Lodge and VFW. Lodge will be closed on event day

Flintlock Muskets, Women, and George’s Tactics in the Revolutionary War with Historian Dabney Davis, Monday, November 10th at 3:00 PM.  Dabney Davis is the quintessential Southern gentleman, a wickedly funny storyteller with a wide range of anecdotes at his command. His collection of 18th Century Flintlock muskets and historical memorabilia will be on display.

The library will be closed Tuesday, November 11th for Veteran’s Day, and Thursday, November 27th and Friday, November 28th for Thanksgiving.

Open Mic, Wednesday, November 12th from 6:00 – 8:30 PM. Perform music, either original or cover tunes, or recite original poetry or stories. Time is limited to 10 minutes per participant. Show up, sign up, and play! Part of a new Open Mic series which will take place every 2nd Wednesday.

Create an Autumn Bracelet with Bev McNally on Wednesday, November 12th from 1:00-4:00 PM in the Jane von Thron Room. The Autumn bracelets are on flexible beading wire and crimp beads with either a toggle clasp or a magnetic clasp. The glass beads are Fall tones, with ambers, browns, oranges, olivine and black with gold or copper beads. Fairly easy. Limited to 10 participants. Cost $12.00. Register at sign up table.

Music on a Sunday Afternoon presents Robert Rowlette and Friends, Sunday, November 16th at 2:00 PM.  Rowlette, who heads up the ‘Outta Sight Band’, has played many times at the library, including our 50th anniversary, as well as accompanying singer/songwriter Austin Church on keyboard. Enjoy a cross section of music including DooWop and Jazz .

Stress: The Causes and Cures with Dr. Marco DiBonaventura, Tuesday, November 18th at 7:00 PM in the Jane von Thron Room. This informative lecture allows participants to discover how stress affects the body and simple things they can do at work or at home to reduce the negative effects of stress. Please register at the sign-up table.

3-D Travel Extravaganza with John Lineberger, Wednesday, November 19th at 7:00 PM. The show features colorful, in-depth scenes from Florida, Ireland, France, Italy and the Netherlands. The stereo slides were taken with a vintage Stereo Realist camera and are projected onto a special screen and viewed with polarized glasses. Seating is limited to 50. Please register at the sign up table.

Make Holiday Earrings with Bev McNally on Thursday, November 20th from 1:00-3:00 PM in the Jane von Thron Room. Easy to medium difficulty. Limited to 10 participants. Fee depends on materials used, from $7.00-$10.00. Extra pairs $2.00-$5.00. Choose from millefiori, Cloisonne and Celestial Crystal cube beads. Register at the sign up table.

2nd AMATEUR SINGER SONGWRITER CONTEST

AT COCOA BEACH LIBRARY

This contest was originally schedule for Saturday, December 6th, however due to the Cocoa Beach Holiday Parade, which musters in the Library parking lot, we have rescheduled it for the following Saturday, Dec. 13th  - 1:00-4:00 PM.

Register now for the 2nd Amateur Singer/Songwriter Contest – Saturday, December 13th , 1:00-3:00 PM at Cocoa Beach Public Library. Calling all amateur singer/songwriters. The library considers an “amateur” a non-professional musician who does not perform for a fee.

• Songwriter must be the singer, perform solo, and will be limited to 2 songs using one instrument in a 10 minute time slot.
• The library will provide the sound system.
• Applications must be in by November 21st. Limited to 10 contestants. If there are more than 10 applicants, names will be drawn from a hat.
• Professional singer/songwriters will judge the contest. (There will also be a People’s Choice Ballot.)
• Songs will be judged on originality, lyrics, melody and overall performance.
• Prizes include an hour of recording studio time at Studio 32, an opening 2 numbers for one of the library’s Music on a Sunday concerts, and more.
