Sea Turtles: Vanishing Ancient Mariners with Cindy Dolloway of the Sea Turtle Preservation Society, Thursday, May 14th at 1:00 PM. Three of the world’s eight sea turtle species nest on Brevard County beaches. Our beaches host the largest concentration of nesting Loggerhead and Green sea turtles in the U.S. and the second largest nesting area for Loggerheads in the world. Through a power point presentation, you can learn about the history of turtles on Brevard beaches; find out what you can do to help protect sea turtles and learn more about sea turtle walks. |

Stitches in Time, Quilting through the Ages – A Trunk Show with Sandee LaRoche Natowich, Wednesday, May 13th at 1:00 PM. A lifelong Merritt Island resident, Sandee grew up in an era where young ladies were still taught needle arts. In the late 1970’s and early 1980’s, quilting became recognized as a textile art that experienced resurgence and has gained in popularity since then. Ms. Natowich has taught quilt making and design for over 25 years. She lectures on quilt history and gives workshops on whole cloth quilting. She will lecture wearing Victorian dress. |

Pilates with Cory Huggins, Mondays at 9:00 AM, through May 18. Cost is $5.00 per session. Pilates is a series of stretching and strengthening exercises, which integrate the whole body and mind, which can result in the benefits of strengthened and toned muscles, as well as improved posture, flexibility and balance. Cory has taught Pilates for 3 years and group fitness for 5. Bring a mat and a water bottle. Participants should be in good health.

On May 26, 2009 from 10-12 and 1-3, the Supervisor of Election Lori Scott’s staff will be at the Cocoa Beach City Hall performing a Voter Drive. Not only is this a great opportunity for the residents that are not registered to do so, but it also is helpful for those that have had an address change or need to update their signatures to do so. We will also have forms for Absentee/Mail Ballots requests. The following forms of identification shall be considered current and valid, if they contain the name and photograph of the applicant and have not expired: United States passport, Debit or credit card, Military identification, Student identification, Retirement center identification, Neighborhood association identification, Public assistance identification and Driver License |

3-D Travel Extravaganza with John Lineberger, Friday, May 28th at 1:00 PM. John has been displaying his 3-D materials in the Display Case for the month of May. Now it’s time to see a 3-D slide show in action. The stereo slides were taken with a vintage Stereo Realist camera and are projected onto a special screen and viewed with polarized glasses. | Ongoing Programs | Ongoing: Book Discussion Groups meet on the 2nd Tuesday at 1:00 PM and the 2nd Wednesday of the month at 10:00 AM and the in the Captain’s Room. On Tue., May 12, the group will review People of the Book by Geraldine Brooks. On Wed., May 13 the group will discuss The Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison. The Watercolor Group will meet on Thursdays, from 1:00-4:00 PM in the Captain’s Room. This social, non-instructive painting group is open to anyone with an interest in watercolors.
