Legacy Junior Lifeguard Program Registration - Saturday May 1  and   Saturday May 15 at the Cocoa Beach Pier, 8-11 a.m., The Legacy Junior Lifeguard Program/Guard Start provides a foundation of lifeguarding and life skills, water safety, lifeguarding, CPR certification, Junior Lifeguard event training, and much more June 7th - July 23rd Cocoa Beach Pier 8:30am -11:30am, Monday-Friday. The six week session is $375 and each team member will receive Nike gear sponsored by Long Doggers

Citizens Action Committee will host guest speaker County Commissioner Chuck Nelson on Saturday, May 1st at 10:00 AM at Cocoa Beach Public Library, 550 N. Brevard Ave., Cocoa Beach, FL. 868-1104.  Topic will be The State of the County, followed by a question and answer period. The public is invited. For further information, call 784-8020.

Music on a Sunday Afternoon presents Pan Sharks Steel Drum Entertainment on Sunday, May 2nd at 2:00 PM. Enjoy some Caribbean Calypso, Jamaican Reggae, Jimmy Buffet, popular tunes, as well as island favorites, and learn the interesting history of the art form.

Wednesday May 5th at 7:00 pm Cocoa Beach High School Prism Concert
On Wednesday May 5th at 7:00 pm in The Cocoa Beach High School Performing Arts Center the Cocoa Beach High School Music Department will present their first Spring Prism Concert. A Prism Concert is an exciting new way to present a concert, providing non stop music in every part of the theater.  This concert will feature performances by the Cocoa Beach High School Chorus, String Ensemble and Concert Band as well as selected small ensembles. Music directors Mrs. Maureen Baldino and Mr. Chuck Brooker are proud of the success of their talented and dedicated students this year and are looking forward to sharing this special event with the community. Admission to the concert is a suggested donation of $5.00 with the proceeds of the concert going to help fund the Cocoa Beach Jr/Sr High School music programs.

It’s No Laughing Matter – Urinary Incontinence with Dr. Marja Sprock, Fellowship Trained Urogynocologist, Wednesday, May 5th at 2:00 PM. An enlightening and up-beat discussion about this embarrassing but treatable condition, which affects about 12 million adults in the U.S.

Meet Joyce Athey – Artist & Author, Thursday, May 6th at 2:00 PM in the Jane von Thron Room. Her artwork is on exhibit in the main library during the months of May and June. She will also be signing and selling copies of her book of art and poetry, Cathedrals of the Heart : expressions of faith in painting and poetry, for $18.96. Kirk House Publishing has deemed this book the “gift of the year for 2010”. Refreshments will be served.

Friday May 7th at 6:30 Cocoa Beach Jr/Sr High School Orchestras Video Game Music Concert
On Friday May 7th at 6:30 in the Cocoa Beach High School Performing Arts Center the Cocoa Beach Jr/Sr High School Orchestras will present a concert featuring the music of your favorite video games, like, the theme from Mario Brothers, Halo and Tetris, just to name a few. The Cocoa Beach High School Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced Ochestras will be joined for a perfromance by our special guests: the string students from Roosevelt, Freedom 7 and Cape View Elementary Schools. Music directors Mrs. Maureen Baldino and Ms. Sarah Sizemore are proud to share the pleasure of these young musicians with the community. Admission is a free will donation which helps to support and fund the Cocoa Beach Jr/Sr HighSchool String Program.

  Sea Turtle Preservation Society Emergency Response Program, Saturday, May 8th 9:30-11:30 AM at Cocoa Beach Public Library, 550 N. Brevard Ave., Cocoa Beach, FL. Sea Turtle Emergency Response Volunteers are authorized to participate in the rescue of of hatchling sea turtles that are washed back ashore by strong waves and/or winds. The peak period for these “washbacks” is August through November. If you would like to be a volunteer, please attend this workshop.Questions? email Adrienne ER@SeaTurtleSpaceCoast.org.

  Sea Turtles: Vanishing Ancient Mariners with Cindy Dolloway of the Sea Turtle Preservation Society, Thursday, May 13th at 1:00 PM. Three of the world’s eight sea turtle species nest on Brevard County beaches. Our beach hosts the largest concentration of nesting Loggerhead and Green sea turtles in the U.S., and the second largest nesting area of Loggerheads in the world. Through a power point presentation, you can learn the history of turtles on Brevard beaches; find out what you can do to help protect sea turtles and learn more about sea turtle walks.

Food for Life: Nutrition and Cooking Classes for Cancer Prevention and Survival, a 4 class series taught by Susie Fricker, on Saturdays, May 15, 22, 29 and June 5 from 1:00-3:00 PM. The classes are sponsored by The Cancer Project, a nonprofit organization advancing cancer prevention and survival through nutrition education and research. Class will be limited to 35 participants and the fee per class will be $7.50. Telephone the instructor to register at 652-0563.

On Saturday, May 22 nd, Keep Brevard Beautiful will be hosting the “Trash Bash Final Fling” at Fischer Park.   This is a showcase event which will:

  • Allow for recognition of the ongoing support provided by Waste Management and the WM/KBB cooperative partnership which makes cleanup efforts possible
  • Include the presentation of a competitive grant award to KBB from Waste Management
  • Highlight community cleanup efforts including The Great American Cleanup, St. Johns River Cleanup and similar efforts
