  Out of the Box: Domestic Violence, Trauma, Abuse, Control, Addiction and Depression with Judy Brinkley, Tuesdays, October 5, 12, 19 &26  at 6:00 PM in the Jane von Thron Room. Judy, who is a Christian minister, speaker and author, will speak about how she got out of the box of domestic violence. She will discuss her healing process through empowerment and emotional and spiritual healing.

Art Journaling with Joan Throm, Friday October 8 & 22 at 2:00 PM in the Jane von Throm Room. Art journaling is a technique tapping into your inner child to express emotions. The technique consists of a non-dominant hand scribble, followed by using the dominant hand to color in areas, utilize simple designs and/or words to express one’s inner self. A fun process, and easy way to record response to day to day challenges and joy as well. This technique enables restoration of inner tranquility. The  instructor is a doctoral student in pastoral counseling and a spiritual director. Cost is $5.00 to cover supplies. Please register at the sign up table for either session.

Watercolor Classes with award winning watercolor artist Helen Wheatley, Tuesdays, 9:00 AM – noon, October 12th –November 30th.  Suitable for beginning and intermediate students. Cost is $80.00 for the 8 week session. Register at the sign up table and pick up a materials list. Enrolment is limited. Helen’s Faces at the Oasis won best of show at the Central Brevard Art Association annual show in March 2007.

Health, Nutrition and Weight Loss with Charlie Mora, Tuesday, October 12th at 2:00 PM in the Jane von Thron Room. In simple terms, Charlie tells you what foods you should eat to stay young, fit and trim; how to make the connection that what we eat and do determines what we are and what we can be. The course will cover hydration/dehydration; how the body burns fat; the American diet; insulin control; food ratios; nutrition factors; supplements; exercise, duration vs. intensity. Bring a notebook. This class meets every 2nd Tuesday if the month.

Arthritis, with Dr. Marco di Bonaventura, Tuesday, October 19th at 1:00 PM in the Jane von Thron Room. Winning techniques to help improve performance and eliminate risk of injury. Participants will learn the early warning signs of arthritis; exercises that can cure or prevent various health problems; the Do’s and Don’ts to minimize the progression of the disease and non surgical approaches that are effective in relieving pain. Presented by the Foundation for Wellness Professionals.

Potential Impacts of Climate Change to The Thousand Islands with Tim Kozusko, Tuesday, October 19th at 6:00 PM. Tim Kozusko loved growing up in Cocoa Beach. His adventures exploring the Thousand Islands grew into more discovery of why things are the way they are. His love of reading helped him understand the history and geology of the area. As a biologist, Tim has done numerous plant and animal surveys. Tim made a website for the Thousand Islands to share the information he learned. His wife, Laura teaches fifth grade at Freedom Seven and they frequently lead canoe tours of discovery into the Thousand Islands. Tim Kozusko works at Kennedy Space Center and is working on his Ph.D. in Science Education at FIT. With each talk Tim gives, he adds new material of news that is happening on the islands and future plans. Tim's enthusiastic presentation, great visuals, and  dry sense of humor is always popular and brings a crowd, no matter how many times it’s been heard.

  Drawn to the Light: The History of Cape Canaveral and its People, a history lesson within a book talk with author Sonny Witt, Wednesday, October 20th at 6:00 PM. Witt’s book chronicles the settlement of Cape Canaveral and tells the story of the Ais and the courageous people who came after. A must read for history buffs. Copies will be available for $25.00.

15th Annual International Sea-Bean Symposium and Beachcombers’ Festival, Friday, October 22nd (10:00 AM – 5:00 PM) and Saturday, October 23rd (9:00 AM – 9:00 PM) Noted scientists, authors and enthusiasts of sea beans and other drifting materials will be present for this 2 day event. Displays, power point presentations, beach walks, contests and discussions will make this an interesting weekend.  Keynote speaker on Saturday night will be weatherman John Pendergrast (NOAA), who will speak about weather that influences our beachcombing/seabeaning. Others speakers include Dr. Curtis Ebesmeyer, Ed Perry and Dr. Deacon Ritterbush, who will speak of the archaeology of beachcombing as well as the spiritual side of it.

Cocoa Beach citizens should be mindful that during these events, especially during the Air Shows on October 30-31, traffic in/around the Lori Wilson Park area will be extremely heavy.  If you plan to attend these events, be prepared to arrive early and stay late as huge crowds of people and cars are expected.  The air show aerial demonstrations can be observed from basically any beach area in Cocoa Beach from the Cocoa Beach Pier including Alan Shepard Park (east end of S.R. 520) to Minutemen Causeway.  Lori Wilson Park has been designated as "show center" where most of the static displays, vendors, special reserved seating/parking  will be located.
