Animal Services - Pets are important companions. Let's take care of them.

Brevard County provides animal services for Cocoa Beach. The County's Animal Services' mission statement is:

"Protecting the public from animal transmitted diseases and aggressive and dangerous animals; providing for the welfare of domestic animals, and providing for the humane sheltering of domestic animals."

The rules provided in the Brevard County Animal Code are enforced in Cocoa Beach. For information or enforcement, please call the County's Animal Services at 321-633-2024, or visit them on the web at http://www.brevardanimalservices.com.

Vaccines and License Tags Needed!

Brevard County requires all dogs and cats to be vaccinated and have attached animal license tags. The tags are to be renewed yearly. Pet owners can be fined for each animal that does not have a rabies vaccination certificate and/or a license tag. Tags can be purchased at the Brevard Animal Services and Enforcement, at many vetenary clinics and local adoption centers. The Brevard County Health Department provides information on rabies. Rabies is a deadly viral disease that can be prevented, but not cured. Do not allow pets to run free. Residents and visitors are required to adhere to the leash law for both dogs and cats. Pet owners can be fined for not following the leash law. To learn more, click on "Brevard County's Citations and Fees."

Dog Parks

The Lori Wilson Dog Park is a 32,000 square foot fenced, off-leash area with large dog and small dog areas. The creation of this park was a joint venture between the City of Cocoa Beach and Brevard County. Dogs must be vaccinated and wear a current Brevard County license tag to use the park. Visitors from outside Brevard County must have the equivalent license tag from the governing authority of their place of residence (city, county, state), along with current license/tag and shot record. Outside the Dog Park, dogs are allowed in parking lot only and must be on short leash.

A complete list of rules can be downloaded: RULES (PDF). For further information call Brevard County Parks and Recreation: 321-868-1154. After hours, weekends and holidays call Animal Services 633-2024.

Animals of the Beach

Animals, with leash or no leash, are not allowed on the beach. This rule is enforced throughout Brevard County. The penalty is a fine.

Dog-Friendly Restaurants

In 2007, the City of Cocoa Beach adopted Ordinance No. 1461, which provides for restaurant requirements, to make their establishments dog friendly. Please call the City's Development Services Department (321) 868-3217 to inquire on which restaurants have met requirements.
