Code Enforcement
The Code Enforcement officers enforce local, county and state statutes applicable within the city limits of Cocoa Beach.
The objective of the code enforcement efforts is compliance with the City of Cocoa Beach Code of Ordinances. It is important to remember that the Code of Ordinances represents the local laws aimed at ensuring the health, safety and welfare of our residents and visitors - quality of life issues. These local regulations have been developed over time by the City Commission at the request of the residents. The City staff is responsible for enforcing the Code equally and fairly.
In conjunction with the Cocoa Beach Police Department, the Code Enforcement unit uses the Civil Citation Program (established by Chapter 31 of the City Code of Ordinances) which allows police and code enforcement personnel to issue "on the spot" civil citations to violators of the City's Code of Ordinances. Violations of a lesser nature frequently involve a "Notice of Violation" - in most cases, this notice results in a positive response and the violation is corrected without a Citation. Unless violations are of an irreversible nature, violators are given a reasonable amount of time to comply with the code before a fine is imposed. Violations of a complicated nature are taken before the Code Enforcement Board.
