Public Works

Maintaining the City of Cocoa Beach for residents, visitors, and businesses.

The Public Works Department provides a wide range of services to both the community and internal City departments. While most people associate Public Works with streets, parks, and grounds maintenance, Cocoa Beach's unique location requires us to also maintain beach access areas, dune crossovers, sidewalks, and bikeways, which are heavily used by both year-round residents and seasonal visitors.

What We Do

The Public Works Department id dedicated to keeping the City safe, clean, and well-maintained. Our core functions include:

  • Engineering & Project Management Division: Plans, designs, and manages major infrastructure and environmental projects that enhance City operations and community resilience.
  • Field Operations Division: Maintains and repairs City streets, sidewalks, and public rights-of-way to ensure safe and reliable access throughout Cocoa beach.
  • Building Maintenance Division: Maintains and repairs all City facilities, ensuring clean, safe, and functional public buildings and parks.
  • Grounds Maintenance Division: Preserves the beauty and safety of public landscapes, parks, and athletic fields through sustainability landscape management.
  • Field Management Division: Supports all City departments maintaining and servicing the City's vehicle and specialized equipment.

Working with Other Agencies

Some services are coordinated with state and county partners:

  • Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT): Maintains major roads like State Road A1A and SR50, including signals and sidewalks.
  • Local Partners: Sea Turtle Preservation Society, Keep Brevard Beautiful, and others help with environmental and community projects.
